Growing Ag Industry

Northern California literally feeds the nation with our rich soil! When I am elected, I will work with farmers and producers to make sure our agricultural industry continues to thrive. My grandparents lived on and worked their farm until they died at 101. I grew up in a farming town and have listened to farmers all over Senate District 1 to understand their concerns.

Prevent Wildfires

The firefighters are incredible! The Park Fire started where I live in Butte County and expanded to more than 429,000 acres, without injuries or casualties.

But they need help! They need more equipment, personnel and tools to fight wildfires. There needs to be better coordination between CalFire and Federal Forest Services.

We need to thin out the forest, so fires do not spread as quickly. Thinning will decrease the intensity of these fires to help preserve our beautiful landscape. Rising costs of home and fire insurance policies need to be addresses. Citizens need to be able to afford fire insurance, and to ensure the insurance companies can continue to serve the people.

Increase Water Storage

California is finally building the Sites Reservoir which will hold 1.5 million acre feet of water when completed.  I attended the planning meeting for the Sites Reservoir and learn how the project will help address the water needs of Senate District 1.  We need to continue to expand our water storage so that farmers can grow crops and to protect our rural communities from wildfires.

Economic Development for Our Rural Communities and Inner Cities

During the COVID-19 pandemic, people learned they can work remotely. This led to many moving to more affordable and beautiful places like the North State. Our rural North State needs a leader who understands small business needs. We need to create new opportunities, better infrastructure and technology to support businesses, reduce regulatory barriers, and lower taxes. We need to use new technology to compete with other industries outside the district. When I am elected, I will promote not only small businesses but seek to attract new companies and investment.

Expand Education

A good teacher can influence a child far beyond when they reach adulthood. Developing resources to find good teachers, especially in our rural North State communities, is critical. When I am elected, I will not only advocate funding for children K to 12,  but also for their college education and for trade school opportunities.

Promote Tourism

Senate District 1 is so beautiful! It has waterfalls, snow, lakes, fall foliage, bird watching, mountains -- and yet so many go to Lake Tahoe for vacation. People work hard in District 1, then spend their money elsewhere. We need to develop a hospitality industry in Senate District 1 to support more tourism.  When I am elected, I will promote all the adventures and cultural experiences our district has to offer.
